History Taker: Assist with patient registration – obtain vital signs, interview patients to obtain medical information, answer basic medical questions. (Afternoons and/or evenings, 3-month commitment; no experience necessary, training sessions provided and required.)
Laboratory Phlebotomist: Perform lab work such as blood drawing, pregnancy tests, and urinalysis. MUST be Phlebotomy certified OR 3rd or 4th year medical student with phlebotomy training. The Free Clinic does not provide phlebotomy training. Hepatitis B vaccination is strongly recommended. (Afternoons and/or evenings, commitment requirement varies; license/special degree required, full on-the-job orientation provided.)
Laboratory Technician: Perform various lab duties, including urinalysis, pregnancy tests, and paperwork. Does NOT assist with blood drawing unless phlebotomy certified. MA certification preferred. (Afternoons and/or evenings, 3-month commitment; no experience necessary, on-the-job training.)
Pharmacy Technician: Dispense medications from the pharmacy under the direction of a licensed practitioner; sort meds, fill prescriptions, maintain records. (Afternoons and/or evenings, 3-month commitment; no experience necessary, on-the-job training.)
Practitioner: Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Nurses, and Specialty Practitioners provide medical services to patients from all walks of life. Must possess current professional Ohio license. Orientation and support are provided. (Afternoons and/or evenings, commitment requirement varies; unrestricted Ohio license/special degree required; orientation required.)
Students (Med, NP, PA, MA, etc.) and Residents: Will acquire a variety of skills and the ability to perform a host of medical clinic tasks and responsibilities relative to one’s area of study. Must arrange official program rotation with The Free Clinic site contact through liaison at student’s training program/school. Spaces are limited. (Afternoons and/or evenings, commitment requirement varies; on-the-job training.)
Medical Clinic Assistant: Must have already completed externship with The Free Clinic in order to do patient registration and other MA duties. If externship was completed elsewhere, MAs may either help on the Syringe Exchange Program van or may volunteer in the lab. (Afternoons and/or evenings, commitment requirement varies; license/special degree required, full on-the-job orientation provided.)
Medical Clerical Support & Projects Assistant: This position may entail filing, creating new charts, assisting with lab prep work, compiling packets and info for distribution, etc. Serve as communication and administrative liaison between the patient and The Free Clinic medical staff. Make calls to clients regarding appointment reminders. Assist with other various clerical tasks, as assigned. (Afternoons and/or evenings, 3-month commitment required; No experience necessary, on-the-job training.)
Medical Clinic Expediter (LPNs or RNs only): Assist with triage and medical histories, as needed. Prepare patients for examination, obtain medications for patients; schedule follow-up appointments, assist in special procedures; manage clinic flow, patient education, and nurse calls (phone advice). (Evenings, 6-month commitment; unrestricted Ohio license/special degree required, full on-the-job orientation provided.)
