At The Free Clinic, a nonprofit community health center in Cleveland, Ohio, we provide comprehensive, high-quality healthcare completely free of charge to those facing barriers to traditional care. Our wide range of services includes Medical Services, HIV Services, Mental Health Services, Substance Abuse Treatment (SAT) Services, Dental Services, Case Management, Community Education, Advocacy, and Pharmacy Services.
We serve uninsured or underinsured individuals and families, low-income residents, people experiencing homelessness, immigrants and refugees, and anyone managing chronic conditions, mental health concerns, or substance use disorders — all without requiring proof of income, insurance, citizenship, or residency.

Our Team and Opportunities
Our multidisciplinary team combines paid professionals and passionate volunteers — including physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, dentists, mental health providers, case managers, educators, and advocates — all united by the belief that quality healthcare is a basic human right.
Paid Positions
We maintain a small but highly skilled core staff and periodically open roles for experienced professionals who want to build long-term careers in community health.

- Primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, and registered nurses

Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are the heartbeat of The Free Clinic. They allow us to offer more appointments, extend hours, and reach more people in need. We are especially and urgently seeking volunteers in medical personnel roles to help meet growing demand for our free services.
Medical Personnel Volunteers (Highest Priority)
These roles directly deliver patient care and are essential to expanding our clinical capacity.
- Licensed physicians (primary care, internal medicine, HIV/infectious diseases, psychiatry, addiction medicine)
- Nurse practitioners and physician assistants
- Registered nurses
- Dentists and dental hygienists
- Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians
- Mental health and substance use counselors / therapists
Other Valuable Volunteer Roles
These positions support smooth clinic operations and community outreach.
- Front desk reception and patient eligibility screening
- Case management and resource navigation assistance
- Community education workshop facilitators and outreach team members
- Administrative and clerical support
- Interpretation services (multilingual volunteers especially welcome)
Volunteer Requirements & Support
- Current professional licensure in good standing for clinical roles (we assist with malpractice coverage facilitation where possible)
- Completion of background check and basic health screening
- Minimum commitment: usually 4–8 hours per month or per scheduled shift
- Flexible scheduling options, including weekday evenings (until 7 PM on Tuesdays) and Saturday mornings (9 AM–12 PM)
- Comprehensive orientation and ongoing training in cultural humility, trauma-informed care, HIPAA, and clinic protocols
We warmly welcome retired providers, medical and dental students from local universities, and community members passionate about equitable healthcare.
